My name is Zoom and I come from the moon...

Yes, it was a nice birthday. Almost made turning another year older not so terrible. We went to the Turkish Restaurant and I ordered coban kavurma (I just love the way that sounds!). For dessert, we came home and had Heath Bar Crunch ice cream cake. Lisa presented me with the first season DVD of La Femme Nikita and a peppermint patty. When my mother brought out the ice cream cake, she said: "The different candles have different values-- you see the 2 white candles equal 10. The blue candle equals 5 and the pink candles each stand for...." I told her I didn't want to hear any more.
After the cake, Lisa and I went to New Hope and sat at Havanna's outside bar, and drank Michelob Ultra (2.6 carbs!). The bartender gave me a shot of tequila. I slept so good last night I may make a shot of tequila a part of my nightly ritual.

*bonus points if you know where "My name is Zoom" comes from.

...and I came down to earth just to sing you this tune!

12-8-03
Thank you for keeping this wonderful memory Alive! My son, Chris, turns 27 today and I bought his Zoom Birthday song when he turned 1!
We have enjoyed playing and singing this song every year of his wonderful life!
When he was a wee little one he would sqeal with delight evry time Captain Zoom would sing his name! Then we went through the, " Mom TURN That Off" stage. Well today he has is own little 3 1/2 year old Zoomett and now that I have found you I can order a cd for his son to carry on the family tradition.
I just wish we could order and download online to send via the net.
Happy Holidays, Heidi

Today was my daughter's birthday -- Laurita. She is far off from home but she still got to hear "Lauren it's your birthday!!!! No matter how far you go, Captain Zoom will sing to you Happy Birthday, Lauren!!! Sorry your Mom and I were not able to be there to dance around the breakfast table to the tone of Zoom, making perfect fools of ourselves, as has been our tradition for many years!

Happy Birthday sweet!!!

ILY, Dad

OH MY GOD!!!! I cannot believe that there are soooo many others who were tortured (in a good way!) by this song! For almost 30 years I had to hear this on every single birthday until Mom passed away and now I make sure my brothers and sister still "get it" on theirs! Today is my sisters 37th and she'll be "getting it" later! Back in the day Mom couldn't find one with my little brothers name (Vaughan) but I just found the website that now sells them on CD inseatd of those cool floppy 45's! His 31st is next year and what a suprise when he hears his name instead of "Big Guy"!!!
This is great! I hope everyone has the same fantastic childhood memories from this song! I am soo thankful my Mom did this for us kids! And even more happy that I can still torture my siblings with it today!!!!!!
(www.captainzoom.com) check it out!

I am so happy that there are other people out there who enjoted this song as much as me. I am 28 and remember my dad pulling out that record every year on my birthday. My daughter (first child) is turning 1 on the 24th of this month and I am trying desperately to relive this tradtion with her. Does anyone know if you can still purchase this. I am assuming it would now be on CD. Please let me know ASAP so I can get it in time. Thanks so much, Stacy

I love this song, and was talking to my mother who cannot find the so called "record" My grandmother sent it to me, and I loved it and played it over and over again. I asked just this week for her(mom) to find this record, as she keeps all of my belongings from way back, and she could not find it. I know it was on some strange kind of vinyl, floppy, thin etc...I can't recall all of the words either...anyone who can help with words...Please email me///!!!

Today is kate's birthday. I am going to sing this song today for her. For other birthdays,
we will do this song. If anyone saw captan zoom in real life, people might get mad.
So I will not say," Thanks zoom. I'll see you soooooooooonnnnnnnn!" It is not good.
I hate to do that for older students.

I just turned 26 and my father has played that song everyday of my birthday for the past 20 years when we are together. I moved out to California, 2500 miles from home but he still managed to arrange my boyfriend play the song for me. I can't help but smile everytime I hear it and I hope other enjoy the same.

I consider myself very fortunate to have had this record, this wonderful piece of "Americana" as a part of my childhood memories. On the morning of every one of my birthdays from 1973 and until my mother pased away in 1983, she would make sure that this song was the very first thing I heard. Before I heard the birds chirp, before I heard the early morning cartoons on the T.V. I would be tugged from my dreams to " This is space command to Zoom, all systems are go for your message to Michael..."
It didn't matter what I was dreaming of or where my mind brought me to play, but when my ears began to hear the beggining of this song, MY birthday song, there was no other place in the whole universe I wanted to be. Now today 09/18/03 I will play Zooms message for my son "Ryan" on his first birthday and for many more birthdays to come. Thanks Zoom! and I'll see you next Yeeaaaaaaaar...

hey (insert name), it's your birthday! Hey (insert name), it's your birthday!

my name is zoom and i live on the moon and i came down to earth just to sing you this tune! Hey (insert name), it's your birthday!

something something something just to say, "Hey (insert name), you're the big star today!"

okay, maybe that's not it exactly, but i remember playing it and replaying until my mom screamed at me to turn it off. i thought i was so cool. plus, it was not like a regular record. it was square and flimsy. i wish i still had mine.

Happy birthday! It sounds like you had a very enjoyable celebration. I admire your discipline in limiting yourself to the one shot; tequilla is kind of like popcorn-it's hard to stop once you get started. Aftereffects can be a bit more problematic than popcorn, though.

In 1976, The American Broadcasting Co. introduced the Captain Zoom™ Personalized Happy Birthday Recording in a soft record format. Its early success was aided by Robert Stiller, who was a sales and marketing consultant to ABC.

When ABC decided to discontinue their Record and Tape division in 1978, Mr. Stiller purchased the recording rights and inventory and merged the product into American Pro, a general product company with distribution to the mass marketing sector. The Captain Zoom™ Personalized Happy Birthday recording enjoyed great success with distribution in chains such as Toys R Us, Childworld, Children's Palace, Kiddie City, Walmart, Target, and Bradlees. Over 30,000,000 children have enjoyed this special personalized song. Distribution of the song was not only in the U.S.A. but England, Ireland, South Africa and Australia.
