If this is the way all Motel 6’s look, I might actually stay in one!

Last year I was privileged to spend an enchanted evening at a Motel 6 in Kansas City, MO and a Motel 6 in St. Joseph, MO. The one in St. Joseph was clean, nicely run, and a tremendous bargain. The one in Kansas City was a hangout for drug dealers. I live dangerously.
Motel 6 is Retro Cheapo. What I really like is Googie
Style motels with the tacky Jules Verne feel (Truckers Welcome!):

STOP B.DAVIS! STOP! This is the second awesome link you have indirectly pointed me to today! Earlier you posted http://www.ultraswank.net and now http://silver-rockets.com. I can’t keep this pace up!

(What other awesome links are you sitting on?)

Haha. Sorry. I’m a sucker for things architectural (my dad was in the construction business). I didn’t even know what “googie” meant until I saw The Space Needle in Seattle described recently as a “googie architecture” (also known as populuxe). Now I realize that just about any schlocky thing designed between 1958 and 1964 fits that label.

Want another awesome link? Oral Roberts died recently but he left behind Googie University in Tulsa. I passed through Tulsa a few months ago and saw what is probably the ugliest campus in America — Oral Roberts University. Behold, the googie Prayer Tower:

I think Donna must be shoveling about 3 feet of global warming off her sidewalks.
