It was a sight to be seen when the cameras turned off for the commercial break. The hair dryers would come out and the women AND MEN would primp and preen! I remember when "happy talk" newscasts first appeared...you know, where the news anchor chuckles and trades barbs with the sportscaster, and everyone on the set grins like cheshire cats...I think maybe the Mary Tyler Moore show was instrumental in changing the tone and delivery of local newscasts.
