And any more than one message left on a machine/voicemail is too many.  I think that &quot;leaving a message&quot; scene from Swingers (perhaps a male analogue to the movie you&#039;re quoting, although I haven&#039;t seen it) was an act of public service.

When I was single, if I was interested in a woman then I&#039;d call her the next day.  Otherwise she&#039;d get no call at all.  I can&#039;t speak for all men but I think it&#039;s fair to say that any guy who waits three days because of some silly rule (promulgated by who, exactly?) can&#039;t really call himself a man.</description>
