Flash! OhhOhhhhhh
by Donna on January 31st, 2007
Running off to work. I have to remember to call my insurance agent and ask about my bill. They had somehow set me up to pay monthly by automatic withdrawl. This sounded cool to me until I found out they charge a 2.00 surcharge for the convenience! I asked my insurance agent if we could just do a one time withdrawl? NOPE! So now I have to write them a check but I’ve been checking my mail for the updated bill and it still hasn’t arrived. It’s due in two days! UGH!
I think it’s supposed to snow this evening. My plan before hearing of the snow was to drive to the farm this evening. I hope the snow doesn’t make that an adventure in futility. We shall see. I don’t put much stock in weather forecasting. It seems like a lot of guessing to me.
XMmmmmmmm
by Donna on January 30th, 2007
The Monte Carlo came with a year of OnStar and three months of XM Radio. I am really enjoying the XM Radio, particularly the Decades category which hosts the 40’s, 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and another decade which means nothing to me. Oddly enough, I find myself tuned to the 40’s and 50’s more than the other decades. One would almost assume I am tuned in 24/7 to the 60’s station, but nope, not that much. XM is really a great idea but I find that it’s just not very reliable. I lose signal quite often. In fact, if I concentrate hard enough, I can make the signal drop using just the power of my mind. It’s true! Driving home from work I was listening to the 50’s station and I was overjoyed to hear them playing Rockabilly! There must have been 5 songs in a row from Ricky Nelson and then they played Eddie Cochran! My question is, once the 3 months are up, is it worth 10-12.00 per month? I am not quite sure. One thing I really quite like is the presence of Wolfman Jack on the 60’s station. Wolfman’s been dead at least 10 years! How is it possible he is broadcasting on XM Radio? I have no clue but I do find it almost comforting. It’s like I tune into a parallel universe where Wolfman Jack lives forever and Eddie Cochran gets airplay.

If you are sending business emails– PLEASE PUT YOUR PHONE NUMBER AND ADDRESS IN YOUR SIG FILE! It makes life so much easier for the people who receive your emails. It drives me insane when I get an email that asks me to call them and I have to hunt for their phone number. Gosh, make it easy for me why don’t you?

A new week
by Donna on January 28th, 2007
Last week a couple things caught up with me. I had been making mistakes. Two really bit me on the ass– one worked out in my favor. Somewhere along the way I allowed myself to mentally withdraw and I’ve been living in a bit of a haze. This is totally unacceptable and the porch light is going back on. I must get myself back to a place where I am in control and aware- at all times.
Tired and blue

If I were smart, I would buy a ticket and go to Florida for a couple days. Get away from the the winter. I am feeling seasonally-affected. Or perhaps my life is just crap. No, I prefer to think it’s the season. I shouldn’t complain. It’s not like I have a distended belly from starvation and tons of flies covering my face. Angelina isn’t trying to save me! Last night I went to CVS and bought some B6 tablets. Supposedly it gives you energy. That is, if it isn’t being passed through the system, undigested. The winter has been relatively mild. I guess it doesn’t matter how warm and bright it is during the day when all I see is darkness in the morning and darkness in the evening. I gotta get out at lunchtime. Easy to say not so easy to do.

I am not alone in my desire to be left alone.

How to get your name off lists, so sales people won’t call, junk mail won’t come, and spam won’t clog the in-box.

The funny thing is I am a salesperson! You’d think I wouldn’t mind getting deluged in offers since that is how I make my money. The difference, in my mind, is I am actually selling a product businesses need and I am not bothering people when they are home– I call into businesses during business hours. I am not sending out tons of literature that is just future landfill. I am not calling people during dinner time obviously reading from a script. Yesterday I had a real banner day. What really pleased me more than just the mere fact I was closing deals and making money was that each person that I sold, THANKED ME. They were happy. I think the only way I would ever thank these credit card agencies, insurance companies, mortgage refinancers, etc… is if they stopped bothering me with their unwanted offers.
24/7
by Donna on January 15th, 2007
It was not a decision I took lightly. I spent quite a number of minutes weighing the different options and the time requirements. Ultimately, after a complete review, I decided not to watch 24 this season. One of the main reasons I decided to opt out is that the producers didn’t enact a single suggestion that I so generously and creatively offered. George Lucas also ignored my suggestions, and we all know how shitty those last few Star Wars movies were. Imagine how great they could have been if George got off his freaking high horse and just opened his mind and listened to me! Hard feelings aside, I just don’t want to put my psyche through all that violence. I have enough stress in my life. I don’t want to have to deal with Jack Bauer too.
Suzi Quatro: Back to the Drive
by Donna on January 15th, 2007
Suzi has a new album out and it’s pretty good! It’s called Back to the Drive and you can listen to it HERE!
According to the album cover she has apparently morphed into Carly Simon. Luckily she still sounds like Suzi, if just a little deeper.

I LOVE the fact she didn’t have her wrinkles airbrushed away! That’s just another reason why Suzi Quatro is one of the coolest chicks ever!
Do you shred?
by Donna on January 15th, 2007
When I was a little girl, I loved getting mail. It happened so rarely unless it was my birthday. When an envelope came addressed to me, I would get absolutely giddy! Things have changed considerably since then. I HATE mail. I let it pile until it’s such a huge mountain that I have no choice but to go through it. Most of it is credit card offers and mortgage refinancing offers. This afternoon I decided to go through the pile and as I ripped open each envelope, shredding the contents, my shredder broke. MY SHREDDER BROKE! There was still a pile of mail left and I ended up just ripping everything into tiny little pieces. I now have tons of little paper cuts all over my right index finger. I wonder if I use the shredder too liberally? Is it really important to shred Christmas Card envelopes? Perhaps it is enough to just rip out my address and rip that to pieces keeping everything else intact. I don’t know.
Do you shred every single piece of mail, envelope included? How do you deal with your mail?
