Make the scene! Go naked in the world!

by Donna on May 31st, 2005

My Subterraneans VHS tape arrived today. After dinner (a Subway hoagie) I hooked up my old VHS player and popped in the tape. The quality was not very good. Regardless, the movie is exactly as I remembered! I LOVED IT! There were scenes I had forgotten yet I could recite the lines as if years had not passed since my last viewing. Roxanne remained my favorite and she still makes me want to rim my eyes in kohl, paint sad self-portraits and do impromptu jazz dances. And if given the option of George Peppard or the other Bohemians, I would have taken Jim Hutton! Oh his little Manfred Mann beard was cute! “The only sanity worth having, lies on the other side of madness!”

Yodalicious

by Donna on May 31st, 2005

Another week. I don’t need to go to Chicago which is cool beyond cool. It’s been so nice staying home. Traveling, although exciting and fun, is also very tiring. Next weekend my cousin is having a High School Graduation Party for her daughter. Hey, that’s a good excuse to go shopping. My other cousin didn’t visit this last weekend as I had hoped– what a shame. It would have been nice seeing him and his kids. Well, I should see him at the party instead.

I have yet to see Revenge of the Sith– maybe this week. I hope it hasn’t moved into the little theater yet. Yesterday I saw a 10 minute trailer for Batman Begins. It looked a little silly. For some reason I kept expecting Yoda to pop up and tell Bruce Wayne to use the force. I really think Yoda should go freelance and appear in other movies. I’d pay to see him in a tender romantic comedy.

Happy Memorial Day

by Donna on May 30th, 2005

Have a great Memorial Day! Lisa and I are going to my parents’ house for a BBQ. I really wish I could send each and every one of you one of my father’s delicious hamburgers and to you vegetarians, a tofu equivalent. One day, maybe.

Riddle me this Batman!

We’ve had some sad entertainment figure losses this month. Frank Gorshin, Ismail Merchant and the guy who did the voice of Tony the Tiger. I was really saddened by Frank Gorshin’s death. My father said it was for the best because he was just no longer funny. Regardless, he was in some really great shows and movies back in the ’60s. He played Connie Francis’s Dialectic Jazz musician boyfriend, Basil in Where the Boys Are. That’s the movie where Jim Hutton as TeeVee, asks Paula Prentiss, Tuggle if she would like to go and get a coupla beers once they get to Fort Lauderdale. You see, the girls picked up the hitchhiking TeeVee and although he and Tuggle bonded on the long drive, he only saw her sitting down in the car and had no idea how tall she stood.
“You”ll just have to wait and see”
“Wait and see what?”
“Pull the car over.” Once the car is stopped, she stands up on the car seat. “5 feet and 11 inches!”
“That’s a lot of Grrrrrrrrrrl, Tuggle! A lot of nice girl!”
It helped that Jim stood 6′4. Oh wait, this was an entry on Frank Gorshin, oops! Frank also was in that Star Trek episode where half his face was black, the other white and he hated those with the opposite colorings. And of course, he was THE RIDDLER on Batman. Do you remember who replaced him for a few episodes? John “Gomez” Astin. Although he was fabulous in the Addams Family, he didn’t do a very good job as the Riddler and Frank quickly took back the role. RIP

The Magic Eight Ball

by Donna on May 29th, 2005

I had to make a decision this evening. I couldn’t decide and so I pointed my browser to one of the many Magic Eight Ball Simulators. It told me: My Sources Say No. Easy enough!

Lisa and I spent an hour this afternoon with Violet, our next door neighbor. She is 92 years old! We brought her a plate of oatmeal cookies we baked today. She was so happy to see us; I think she may be a little lonely. We’ll have to go and visit her again.

We also went to the park for a walk. I really wish I had my camera with me. Little Bobo made a new friend. She is a white and black Great Dane! You should have see then two of them together. It was so cute!

Tomorrow my parents are having a Memorial Day Barbeque. I can already taste the hamburgers and fruit salad. It should be a nice day. I am glad to have an extra day off. In fact I feel like I could use a month off! That ain’t gonna happen anytime soon.

Sweet sweet

by Donna on May 28th, 2005

I had a lovely time in Princeton despite the downpour. Lisa is getting ready and we are going to go out tonight. I am really hungry for pizza which is kinda odd since I had Thai for lunch not that long ago. I mentioned to Lisa I would really like to see Revenge of the Sith tonight but she maintains that it will be crowded and she is not interested in spending time in a crowded movie theater. What can I do to convince her that it won’t be crowded and it’s as good a time as any to see it? Nothing. Bobo is playing with the curtain in my bedroom. He gets such unending joy tangling himself up in it and pouncing around. I wish I had it so easy.

GRRRRRHHHPPPHHH!

by Donna on May 28th, 2005

I woke up this morning in quite a state. The bed was so warm and my dreams were so pleasant. I really didn’t want to get up. The hands on my alarm clock ticked by and every minute I said, “Get up you sleepyhead!” but I would only snuggle deeper into my covers. Finally I would have no more of this and I threw the covers off me. I kicked my legs and arched my back, waved my arms and grunted. I couldn’t help but laugh since I actually reminded myself of some horror creature rising from the slab. I decided that I should wake up like this all the time.

The day is beautiful, absolutely beautiful! My skin is clear and my favorite pair of jeans that are sometimes too tight, fit me perfectly! Lisa and I are going to take Bobo to the park for a nice brisk walk. Then we will bake cookies for our neighbor across the street. Later in the afternoon I am meeting a friend in Princeton. I think I will wear my red dress.

Snip Snip Snip

I got my hair cut last night. Aprille did a fantastic job. Afterward I bought a tall Latte at Starbucks and walked around Doylestown. I stopped at the Gap and tried on some clothes but they are now catering to a younger demographic than me so I left empty-handed. Goodness, does this mean I will shortly be shopping at Chicos? I really am turning into Bea Arthur.

A Meme from ArmyWifeToddlerMom

by Donna on May 26th, 2005

ArmyWifeToddlerMom sent this to me:

The Movie meme

1) The number of DVD’s I own:
About 25, that is counting boxsets as 1. I expected the number to be much lower!

2) The last DVD I bought:
Charles Bronson’s Hard Times!

3) The last DVD I watched:
The Big Tease

4) Five movies that I watch a lot (in no particular order) that mean a lot to me:
I don’t watch movies over and over. When I was younger I did, but not anymore. I remember watching Star Wars, The Subterraneans, Valentino, Lord Love a Duck and Brideshead Revisted over and over and over again. Nowadays, the only DVDs I watch repeatedly are episodes of La Femme Nikita and the dance sequences of Funicello/Avalon Beach Movies.

5) Tag 5 other people with this Meme…
Nahhh, I don’t pass things on… if someone wants to take it, go ahead!
