Chock Full of Lemony Goodness
by Donna on May 30th, 2004
I went to another Sears store today to pick up 2 additional pairs of drapes. Because they were holding them for me, the saleslady taped the two packs together. The cashier must have thought they were 2 for 1 and only charged me for one pair. The total was lower than I expected but I paid and walk away. I did the math in my head and realized what had happened. There was a part of me that thought, “This is great! A free pair of drapes!” I kept walking and weighed my decisions. What hit me was there really was no decision to make. I had to pay for the extra curtains. Quite simply, it is the right thing to do. And so I went back to the cashier and explained the situation and paid for the drapes. I am glad I acted ethically.
Yesterday my Mom handed me a newspaper article she had saved for me. It was about a local matchmaker. The phone number for the service was highlighted. My mother is not a subtle woman. Oddly enough, I am actually considering it. I did Match.com & eHarmony and had my self-esteem chewed up and spit in my face. Maybe dealing with a Hello Dolly will be different. The thing is, I really don’t want a boyfriend. Would it be wrong to contact the woman mainly to find a friend? That is a little pathetic. Heck, the entire dating scene is pathetic. I must think about it.
I watched Water Drops on Burning Rocks the other night. I really liked it although the movie was nothing like the trailer. The trailer was kooky and fun whereas the movie was dark and just a touch disturbing. I hate when a movie is advertised as one thing but it really is another. At least with Water Drops on Burning Rocks, I would have watched it even if the trailer was more truthful to the movie’s core. The only bad thing is after renting Water Drops… Netflix is now recommending some really weird movies to me like Paris is Burning.
Funny story about that movie. When I was in college, one of the nuns had a field trip to see the movie Is Paris Burning to supplement a French/German history lesson. However, she got the title mixed up and instead took the girls to see Paris is Burning about a bunch of drag queens. Those were the days!
Lemon Crisp Cookies– DELISH!
by Donna on May 30th, 2004
The Lemon Crisp cookies are great! Very lemony and refreshing with a nice crunch. Perfect for summer. My only deviation from the recipe is that I used lemon cake mix that contained pudding. Oh, and I threw in a couple drops of water because the dough was really, really dry. The cookies were very soft when they came out of the oven and at first I wondered if I should bake them longer but the edges were getting brown so I took them out. Once they cooled they became nice and crisp. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if I could place a Lemon Crisp cookie in my DVD drive and upload it to your computer? Maybe one day! Until then, you will have to bake them yourself.
Lemon Crisp Cookies — Sounds Yummy!

I am going to try this recipe today. I will let you know how it turns out.
Lemon Crisp Cookies
1 package (18.25) lemon cake mix
1 cup crisp Rice Krispies cereal
1 teaspoon grated lemon peel
1/2 cup butter, melted
1 egg, beaten
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
In a large bowl combine the cake mix, Rice Krispies and grated lemon peel.
Add the butter and egg and mix well. The dough will be crumbly.
Shape dough into 1-inch balls and place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie
sheets. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes or until set. Allow cookies
to cool on cookie sheets for 5 minutes. Use a spatula to remove cookies
from cookie sheets and place on wire racks to cool completely.
Yield: 3 1/2 dozen cookies.
Donna Goes Mod
by Donna on May 29th, 2004
I had such a nice day. In the morning I weeded my garden and planted lilies. Lisa and I had lunch together outside. The weather was beautiful. Then a surprise package arrived from Dawn Eden! Two Monkees books and a book on the Beatles! Do I have to tell you that had I received this package 17 years ago, I most likely would have peed myself in excitement? Luckily, with age and experience, I have learned to control my bladder. If I ever collect my scanner from my parent’s house, I will have to post some pages from the one book, Monkees go Mod. It is such a product of the 60’s– I love it! Dinner was spent at my parents’ house. My dad cooked pork chops, kielbasa, and bratwurst in sour kraut; it was delish! After dinner, my Mom and I went to Sears where I finally bought drapes for my house and a SUIT FOR $30.00!!!! Yes, a beautiful suit that fits me to a T! Jacket, slacks, and skirt! $30.00! I LOVE clearance. Now I am sitting at my desk trying hard not to fall asleep.
Thanks for the books, Dawn! Great meal, Daddy! I enjoyed shopping with you, Mom! Good night, everyone!

I finally watched 8 1/2 last night. It was nothing like I expected yet what I saw didn’t surprise me. Hey, I’ve sat through Satyricon 3 times! Barbara Steele was in the film. I mainly know of her from her turn as Doctor Julia Hoffman on the remake of Dark Shadows. In fact, seeing her as a young woman, got me searching for a picture of her as Dr. Hoffman. I remember watching Dark Shadows when I was in High School and back then I thought she was rather old. Looking at pictures of her decked out in a white lab coat and oversized glassses, I was struck by how young she looked. It is strange how the passage of times changes one’s outlook.
Next up are Umbrellas of Cherbourg, Water Drops on Burning Rocks and Calendar Girls. Wait, Calendar Girls!?! Yeah, Lisa picked that one.
Gosh, it feels like Friday to me for some reason. Wishful thinking. So much to do and I’m not doing it. The utility closet needs cleaning as does the laundry closet and powder room. DO IT! CLEAN! NOW!

Last night I tried desperately to clean my office. I went through box after box of papers and crap, throwing away as much as possible. I still have a few piles left of the more important or ambiguous items that I couldn’t toss. Tonight I will finish the task– hopefully. As I sorted and organized, I watched Marlon Brando in The Night of the Following Day. Typically, if I am going to watch a movie, then I am going to sit down and watch it. However, the next movie in my Netflix queue is Water Drops on Burning Rocks and I wanted to get at least one movie out the door so I could get the pseudo-Fassbinder film in. If you want to see an amusing trailer, check out the one for Water Drops on Burning Rocks– it’s really the only reason why I want to see the movie.

I can’t find my Davy Jones finger puppet doll. Micky is sitting on my bookshelf right next to Grow up Skipper, but no Davy. Ever since the move, Davy has been at large. I just figured he’d show up somewhere. But he hasn’t! My room is a mess. He is probably buried under some pile. I have to clean– I mean major cleaning. I don’t know what is wrong with me. I seem to have some sort of nesting complex where I like to surround myself with garbage.
This afternoon Lisa and I went to McDonald’s for lunch. I haven’t been to McDonald’s in years! The reason we went was to get the Adult Happy Meal with pedometer. In fact, I have it hanging from my waistband. 1072 steps.

I did workout last night and I did do a crossword puzzle but then I departed from my plan. Instead of watching 8 1/2, I talked to my mother on the phone and then I putzed on the Internet. At around 11:00 I decided to go to sleep but sleep would not come. At about 12:00, I got up, fired up my computer and worked on my CRM database project until 3:00. Once I climbed back into bed, I quickly fell asleep and had odd dreams about Fidel Castro. He asked me to visit Cuba because he wanted to prove to me that the Cuban people loved him as a ruler. Cuba seemed very much like the Westin-Copley Hotel in Boston and everyone ran around talking about Macromedia Flash. I felt such a kinship with these computer-loving Cubans but I felt that I wasn’t really getting the whole story from Fidel. Finally I confronted him and instead of defending himself he simply threw me on a plane back to Florida. As I was in the air, I realized Fidel stole my luggage and was no doubt trying on my dresses.

Last night, Lisa and I joined Mom, Dad, George and Barbara at the Turkish Restaurant in Bristol for a wonderful dinner. Mom and I shared Coban Kovurma, my favorite dish! In addition to the gustatory pleasure, the waiter was absolutely beautiful. He produced strange stirrings in my utility belt. Tall and swarthy, I knew he would love to see me in a burka. It is one thing to admire one’s outer beauty and another to actually want to get to know someone. I preferred the former. So Murat (his name), thank you for gracing my eyes as the Coban Kovurma graced my lips!
